The 65th Turin Motorshow (1994) was used to present a series of concepts based on the Punto. These are shown below.
Most remained sketches or ideas, some made it to the protoype production stage.
Bertone
A 2+2 coupe, this is based heavily on the Punto Cabrio, already built by Bertone, and uses the strengthened chassis and most panels of that
variant, thus reducing costs.
Boneschi
A six-wheeled pick-up, the Doblone uses a second, standard Punto rear axle to significantly increase the load carrying ability of this vehicle.
The fuel tank is located at the rear, allowing two rear seats to be installed, facing one another. Several variants were prosed, including
a van, a people-carrier, an ambulance, etc.
Maggiora / Centro Stile Fiat
A joint venture between Maggiora and the Centro Stile Fiat, this was a small. two-seat open topped car- which later developed into the Scia
(see separate entry in concept cars).
Coggiola
A small, sporting pick-up, the Coggiola proposal is designed for young people with an active lifestyle rather than as a light commercial vehicle.
Giannini
The 4x4 TL (or 'Tempo Libero' which means 'Free Time') is designed to be a functional, versatile and roomy, and is larger than the original Punto on
which it is based. Steyr-Puch were involved on the mechanical development side of the project.
Idea Institute
An unusual combination of coupe and one-box styling, the Idea concept is charachterised by a 'cab-forward' design, highly advanced light clusters and
an almost non-existent rear overhang.
Italdesign
A 2+2 coupe designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, this is a sporty, high-performance vehicle with aeronautical-inspired styling. The very distinctive drop-shaped
dome which forms the roof of the passenger compartment is fully removable, enabling the car to become a true roadster.
Pininfarina
A two-door hatchback designed for leisure use, the Pininfarina offering features various 'off-road' inspired touches, including
increased ground clearance and lower body protection, whilst adding a certain sporty aggressiveness of a coupe to appeal to the young target audience.
Zagato Design
Designed to recreate the historic Zagato-Fiat Abarth link, this vehicle is a 2-seat coupe for those who enjoy driving. Stripped of luxuries such
as the ventilation system, rear hatch (weight reduction) and rear seats, and fitted with bucket seats for the driver and single passenger,
the car also features a movable wing which allows the aerodynamics of the vehicle to be modified depending on its use.
