Fiat Croma

New Fiat Croma At the 2005 Geneva Motorshow Fiat presented the New Croma, an advanced station wagon concept due to go on sale later that year. The all-new new model, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and produced in the Cassino plant, revives the Croma name and follows in its predecessors footsteps in offering interior space, advanced diesel technology and quality.

The New Fiat Croma, available in one body-style only, is an original design, well-proportioned and remaining elegant and and dynamic despite its size. And it is a considerable size, at 4750mm long, 1770mm wide and 1600mm high with a wheelbase of 2700mm. All these figures add up to extraordinary interior roominess, especially the height which is well above the class average.

Access to the inside is also exceptional, with a flat floor and raised H points at both the front and rear. Other MPV characteristics include the high mounted gearlever in the centre of the fascia, the large amount of space between the rows of seats and the high driving position that ensures better visibility.

New Fiat Croma Comfort is assured by the numerous interior customisation alternatives: both seats are height-adjustable; the steering wheel, pedal and gearbox positions are designed for maximum control; the instruments are practical, accurate and easy to read; the multifunction display provides access to various menus (with submenus) which offer a host of functions plus a trip computer and a climate control system that is bilevel for temperature and distribution. A radio with CD player (and MP3 as an option) and six speakers offers an excellent sound system tailored to the vehicle.

The New Fiat Croma includes as standard or optional a host of sophisticated devices and systems including ESP, xenon headlights, up to nine airbags, CONNECT Nav+, a Hi-Fi system with eight speakers and a subwoofer, cruise control, an automatic sequential transmission, double sunroof and alloy wheels. There is also an innovative modular luggage system that allows you to choose the best solution for your needs : one position gives a flat floor plus a hidden space for valuables whilst the second position allows you to use entire load volume.

New Fiat Croma At launch the New Fiat Croma was available with three trim levels (differing materials, always grey or beige), five engines and the same number of gearboxes.

All the engines meet Euro 4 emissions limits whilst the diesels are fitted as standard with particulate filters. Two petrol (136 bhp 1.8 16v and 147 bhp 2.2 16v) and three turbodiesels (120 or 150 bhp 1.9 MultiJet and a new 200 bhp 2.4 MultiJet) engines power the Fiat Croma, with a range of transmissions on offer. All the petrol engines come with a 5-speed gearbox with an optional semi-automatic sequential gearbox on the 2.2 16v. All the diesel engines come with 6-speed gearboxes with a semi-automatic sequential unit as an alternative to the manual unit on the 150 bhp 1.9 Multijet and standard on the 200 bhp 2.4 20v Multijet. The platform is shared with GM and features MacPherson strut front suspension and a multilink rear design.

Active safety plays a significant role in the modern car, and the Fiat Croma is no exception with stability control (VDC) and Hill-Holder for total control of dynamic stability under all conditions. The New Croma caters for passive safety with up to nine airbags and seat-belts with pretensioners and load limiters. It was awarded a maximum five stars in the EuroNCAP safety test.

Late 2007 saw Fiat introduce the facelifted Croma. With a completely new front-end design, based heavily on the smaller Bravo, plus a reworked rear bumper, again influenced by the Bravo, the revised car has a much more balanced and dynamic appearance. Various other small details were changed at the same time.
