Lancia Lybra

Lancia LybraThe Lybra was launched in September 1999 to replace the ageing Dedra. It uses a heavily modified Alfa 156 floorpan, with a similar front suspension, but an all new rear design which allows a small amount of passive rear steer. The body was designed in house at the Centro Stile Lancia in Turin and is available in two shapes, a four door saloon or a five door estate (the 'Station Wagon').

It is powered by either a 1910cc JTD turbo diesel (105bhp), a 2387cc JTD five cylinder turbo diesel (134bhp), a 16V 1581cc (103bhp) or a 16V 1747cc (130bhp) with variable valve timing. The standard Lancia Lybra Station Wagontransmission is a five speed manual unit, whilst a four speed automatic, known as the 'Comfortronic' can be specified with the 2-litre engine.

Aimed at re-establishing Lancia as the luxury marque of the Fiat group, the Lybra is marketed and equipped with this in mind. Standard equipment includes such things as dual zone climate control, multifunction LCD display and Bose Hi-Fi sound system (on the LX). The suspension is less 'sporty' and more 'comfortable' than the 156, whilst the interior trim is plusher. Safety features include ABS, EBD, four airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners.

Can't wait to try this beauty! My favourite is the 1.8 LX; the 2.0 doesn't really add except for fuel costs. (Eduard D., the Netherlands)

Just get my new Lybra 2.0. Realy fun to drive ! The Motor seems a bit lazy at low revolution but make's it raly up at the top end. This Motor realy likes to turn a lot. I don't regret buying this car at all ! (Joerg O. Germany)

Another beautiful car made by Lancia. Fiat wants Lancia to forget his sporty past. But I'm still dreaming of a Lybra HF integrale, a Ypsilon HF integrale and the future Aurelia too. Audi makes it on his cars (quattro) Why not Lancia? Luxury goes well with performances.
